Each
one has a main quality. You have a main quality or more precisely a
set of main qualities. We use our main quality often, in many
situations. And when we face a difficult situation, what do we do?
We try to use our main quality even more. But to go further, to
surpass ourselves, it is more worthwhile to use a complementary
quality, a quality that is radically complementary.
The Complementary Quality
Let’s
take the example of Stephen: Stephen is a project manager and is hugely active. He
frequently used his great capacity of achieving a lot of projects.
His high capacity of achieving a lot of tasks is recognized; this
high capacity of achievement is his main quality. He used this quality in quite
all situations. And when he faced a difficult situation what did he do? He rolled his sleeves up and tried to do all the work and to
achieve all the remaining tasks. Nice quality that somehow you may
have in common with Stephen. But Stephen often faced problems like loss of
meaning and burn out. Could he solve these persistent problems by a higher activity? No,
of
course not. To go further, to surpass himself, Stephen had a vested
interest in developing his complementary quality. For Stephen, this
complementary quality was to listen to his emotions. Indeed, when he
succeeded in listening to his emotions, he was able to live what is important to him, to live what means
a lot to him.
This
complementary quality completed the extent of his range of qualities.
Now he still achieves a lot of things perhaps a little less but he also
listens to his emotions and focus more on his important needs. This
complementary quality allowed him going further in what he lives,
even in his job. This quality was decisive for his self-fulfilment.
